FIVE SHORT PIECES

for wind quintet

Five Short Pieces is a polystylistic adventure through five very different, though short, sound worlds all set for wind quintet. The piece is of moderate length (ca. 10') and is intended for advanced players. The first movement is jagged and lively, exploring the octotonic pitch set. The second is a slow, completely diatonic, meditation on gradual change. The third is an off-kilter waltz in 5/4 featuring the clarinet. The fourth and fifth are both in two parts with each section contrasting the next.
